After reworking my website last month, it is seeing its highest ranking on Google ever. I am in the top 5 and top 10 for the majority of my keyword efforts. This is years and years of trial and error, hard-work, and continuing to learn new SEO methods. Are you in the top 5? I received 2 calls today alone from businesses that found me via Google. Make your website grow with you.

All businesses have their time and place. Some of us are just starting out, some of us are experienced but under-represented, and others are in the midst of growing pains. In today’s world it is important to have a web designer that can grow with you.

I don’t look the way I did ten years ago, and neither do the websites I was making ten years ago. As we grow and evolve, so should our online presence.

A perfect examples is a client that I finished a website for a few days ago. A few years ago Leslie started baking as a hobby. Word of mouth grew that her cheesecakes were more than just filler for after dinner delight. We all found out, one bite at a time, that her cheesecakes were addictive. She started selling her cheesecakes and got some business cards.

She needed a web presence and I helped her on what can be a big stepping stone for her. Right now, she has a place where people can view and learn about her and her products any time they want and purchase cheesecakes through Paypal.

What’s next? Perhaps a full-blown website. Perhaps a complete shopping cart system and full social networking and SEO for the entire Midwest area.

Websites can be stepping stones and if you find the right web designer, you can find someone that will grow with you and help you as your business continues to grow.

Social networking or social stalking?

Social Networking has become a staple for businesses. Our previous budgets for ad campaigns now have been redirected towards making that personal connection, one BLOG at a time. So many of us used to renew our weekly ad in the Sunday paper to get out name out there. Now, we’re on Tumblr, we’re LinkedIN, we’re Facebooking, we’re Yelping our recommendations and complaints. There are hundreds of social networks out there to help us connect, dozens worth actually looking into, and a handful that have now given us the ability to sync up with not only our peers but also our competition in a matter of moments.

Not only do I have the opportunity to share my secrets, my tips, my successes, but now I am able to stalk the competition. So I have. I know the projects they are working on. I know the cost of their bids. I know the name of their staff and what each of them look like…. and I have never even shaken their hand.

Are you a web designer? Lose your ego.

I have come to learn that when you find clients that you want to work with, their happiness is paramount. Their final product and their word of mouth is what is needed to help sell your business and build your future. It is far more important than your monthly advertising bill. This is because word of mouth is more important and much more affordable than running an ad in the Sunday paper.

I had a client that needed some retouching done after the website was complete and paid for. You cannot take this sort of thing personal. It is important to understand that the client’s view of the website product is the most important view. Client’s have the right to be picky and to be detailed in their quest for excellence. It is the web designer’s job to deliver the goods.

Don’t get me wrong. The client is not always right but the client is your number one priority. If they aren’t happy then it is unlikely that anyone else will be happy. I have worked with clients that are disrespectful or hard to deal with and I simply handed them their money back and told them that I simply wasn’t interested in investing any more time in their project (or their attitude.) However, when you have a good client that pushes the line of creativity and focuses on the difference between good and perfection, it is time to bite your tongue and dive in.

Making people smile should be as important as making a good website. In other words, lose your ego.

About

Avatar I have worked directly with websites since 2005. I received my Associates of Business Degree in 2007. I followed it with a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology in 2009. My web portfolio has continued to grow along the way. I have created multiple web creations from scratch including personal websites, small business websites, e-commerce websites, websites for actors, writers, and singers. I have created websites for city government and for global not-for-profit organizations. I also assist businesses with SEO and Social Media setup and growth.

When I'm not working, I am hanging with friends, eating sushi, volunteering for hospice, or working on a new project in my house. I love the festivals in downtown Fort Wayne every summer & how our city comes alive with the warm weather. You can find me at a TinCaps game, the downtown library, jogging around downtown, or at the downtown Starbucks.
